Puzzle Creation Toolkit

Everything you need to turn your weekly spelling lists into perfectly formatted, distraction-free printables using our generator tools.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Preparing your word lists

Before pasting your vocabulary into the Generator, ensure the list is clean. The system accepts comma-separated lists or line-break separated lists.

  • Remove numbers, bullet points, and definitions.
  • Ensure words are spelled correctly; the generator will blindly scramble whatever letters it is given.
  • Avoid phrases with spaces (e.g., "ICE CREAM" is better inputted as "ICECREAM" if you want a single scramble).

2. Adjusting scramble parameters

The generator provides several toggles to control the cognitive load of the resulting puzzle:

  • Force Uppercase: Highly recommended. Uppercase letters possess uniform block heights, making visual pattern recognition easier.
  • Keep First/Last Letter: Use this toggle for special education accommodations or for extremely long academic vocabulary.

3. Formatting the printable

Once the words are generated, the preview area shows exactly what will print on the page.

Column layouts: If your list contains fewer than 12 words, use the single-column layout. If you have 15-30 words, switch to the two-column layout to save paper.

Tips for Best Results

Thematic Grouping

Always group words by a specific theme or spelling rule (e.g., "Words ending in -tion"). This provides semantic context that aids solving.

Difficulty Balance

Start your list with 2-3 easy words to build confidence, place the hardest words in the middle, and end with medium words.
